Open Education Global has recognised OER Africa’s outstanding work in advancing Open Education and awarded it OEGlobal Board Award for Organizational Leadership. The Award was specifically for Organizational Leadership. We are proud to be recipients of this prestigious Award and for the listing of OER Africa on the pages of 2025 Board Award Winners.
OER Africa, a Saide initiative implemented in partnership with Neil Butcher and Associates (NBA) has supported Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Africa in developing and integrating Open Education Resources (OER) to improve teaching and learning. Since its launch in 2008, OER Africa has made significant impact in supporting mainstreaming of OER in African higher education systems. The initiative works through awareness-raising, capacity building, fostering collaborations, developing enabling policy environments, and supporting networks of OER practitioners across the continent. OER Africa has also made global contributions by, for example, supporting the development of the 2019 UNESCO OER Recommendation, monitoring of implementation of the Recommendation and helping prepare the 2024 implementation guidelines.
