Are you looking to enhance your professional development or support it within your department or institution? Visit our new Continuous Professional Development (CPD) framework webpage to explore CPD resources that have been curated specifically for the CPD framework for academics.

In 2023, we introduced our CPD frameworks for professionals in universities. Since then, OER Africa has curated 68 resources to assist with CPD for academics.

Getting Started

  1. Visit the OER Africa frameworks webpage
  2. Click on the 'Academics' button
  3. Choose your domain of interest
  4. Browse resources by capability descriptor
  5. Download or adapt resources for your needs

Resources are curated across four key domains:

  1. Course Design
  2. Materials Development
  3. Facilitating Learning
  4. Effective Assessment and Feedback

For each domain, we have listed capability descriptors, that describe the key areas that an academic should be competent in, to carry out their teaching duties effectively. For example, for the Assessment domain, the descriptors are as follows:

For each descriptor, we have found and evaluated between two and four resources that someone who runs CPD can use in an intervention with academics. They can either be used in their existing form, or, as they are all openly licensed, they can be adapted to suit the institutional context.

For example, if you wish to capacitate colleagues on providing meaningful and effective learning feedback during assessment of students, we have identified four resources. The first one is hosted by the Commonwealth of Learning (CoL).

When you go to the CoL LS4ODFL website, you will see this page. You will need to create an account to access it.

Here is another resource, hosted by Northern Illinois University in the United States, that provides various strategies for feedback:

Visit the CPD Frameworks page to explore our resources and download the Academic CPD framework for a deeper understanding of the capability descriptors and implementation strategies.

We hope you find these resources useful and we welcome any feedback on your experience of using the framework and associated resources. Please feel free to email us at info [at] oerafrica [dot] org (info[at]oerafrica[dot]org).

We are also curating resources for academic librarians, which will be made available soon.
